Jason Karp is a seasoned legal and business executive who brings to Outside GC more than 25 years of experience in the telecom, technology, media/advertising, and public safety environments. Jason has considerable expertise providing strategic and operational support across a variety of organizations, including large corporations, start-ups and emerging growth companies, and the public sector.
Jason handles a wide range of complex commercial and corporate transactions, as well as business operations and market strategy, corporate governance, compliance program development and implementation, and regulatory and policy advocacy and strategy. His clients at Outside GC include UST Global, Resonate, Hillel International, I-Pass Institute, Lynq Technologies, Nutraceutical Corporation, Apcela, Gannett, and the Public Safety Technology Alliance.
In addition to his role with Outside GC, Jason is also the co-founder of the Public Safety Network, a new firm and client of Outside GC, providing business and operational expertise to established and start-up companies entering the public safety tech market which has been recently accelerated by the creation of the First Responder Network Authority (“FirstNet”), the independent government authority responsible for bringing the first nationwide prioritized broadband wireless network to public service professionals.
Prior to Outside GC, Jason served as General Counsel and a senior executive with FirstNet, where he managed all legal matters for the organization, including the interpretation of the complex law that created FirstNet and the development and implementation of a legal strategy and framework supporting the deployment of the nationwide public safety broadband network. Jason also handled the legal side of the procurement process, which resulted in the largest public-private partnership with the Federal Government valued at more than $40B.
During his 7-year tenure with Accenture, Jason held several executive roles, including Director of Commercial Transactions for the Communications, Media and Technology Operating Group. In this role, Jason handled some of the largest and most complex technology transactions for Accenture, working with multiple Fortune 500 clients. As Director of Legal Services for Global Ethics, Jason oversaw all global ethics matters for the company.
Earlier in his career, Jason was Special Counsel with Kelly Drye & Warren, an AmLaw 100 law firm, where he developed an outsourced general counsel practice, focusing on technology and telecommunications commercial transactions, corporate governance, and telecommunications regulatory matters.
Before his outsourced GC practice, Jason served as the first General Counsel, Assistant Secretary, and Vice President of Human Resources for E-centives, Inc. (now part of Catalina Marketing Corporation), handling all legal, compliance, and HR matters, including several strategic acquisitions, and supporting the company’s Initial Public Offering. Jason also previously created the legal department at Net2000 Communications, Inc.; managed a strategic initiatives group for MCI Metro; and ran multiple locations of a national children’s fitness center franchise as its owner and president.
Jason received a B.S.E. with honors in Electrical Engineering from Duke University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.
Jason is a member of the DC, VA and MD Bars. He is a lover of all things fitness and regularly participates in running and adventure racing, and plays keyboards with a local pop band. Jason currently lives with his wife and 3 children in Northern Virginia.
