New Legal Ops Service Offered to Select Enterprise Clients of OGC
The value-add service, led by legal ops pioneer Christopher Sweet, is an extension of the law firm’s commitment to efficient delivery of the highest quality legal work
BOSTON – July 24, 2024 – OGC, a law firm of seasoned general counsel and senior in-house attorneys who augment corporate legal teams and provide fractional general counsel services to early-stage companies, announces today the launch of a new service, OGC Legal Operations Services. Offered as a value-add to the firm’s largest enterprise clients and led by Christopher Sweet, who has decades of experience running operations for major law firms and corporate legal departments, OGC Legal Operations Services helps general counsel assess, design, and optimize their own legal operations function.
“As former in-house counsel themselves, our attorneys understand the challenges facing their in-house peers and know that tackling ever-escalating legal costs is often their biggest priority. For years, we have helped by providing highly skilled business attorneys, on an as-needed basis, at rates that are a fraction of the cost of hiring a full-time legal executive or engaging traditional law firm counsel,” said OGC Managing Partner Greg Williamson. “A change in service delivery model, however, is not the only strategy for managing budget, which is why so many law departments have become interested in legal operations.” OGC Legal Operations Services provides advice and services around three traditional legal ops responsibilities: legal spend analysis, technology selection and adoption, and staffing and training.
The service is led by Sweet, OGC’s Director of Client and Attorney Success. Sweet has led legal operations at major corporations and large law firms, including JPMorgan Chase, Reed Smith LLP, and GlaxoSmithKline. He holds both a J.D. and a Masters in Information Systems and is Lean Six Sigma certified with an abundance of practical experience in legal services. Prior to his legal career, he served in the U.S. Army as an infantry squad leader. “Chris has spent the better part of his career helping lawyers reach their objectives through incremental and breakthrough improvement strategies. We are thrilled that he is here to help our clients do just that,” added Williamson.
“The OGC model, in my view, is what has been missing from the resourcing mix that GCs use to optimize the way they get legal work done and minimize what they pay for it,” said Sweet. “However, for companies with a growing outside counsel spend, it makes sense for us to help them solve tactical problems and achieve their goals through other legal operations disciplines.” More detail about how OGC fits into this resourcing mix can be found here.
