Trained at one of the nation's top law firms (Simpson Thacher & Bartlett), Matthew has substantial experience drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including master services agreements, vendor contracts, SaaS licenses, and other technology-related contracts. At Outside GC, Matthew now serves as outside counsel to a diverse set of start-ups, mid-size companies, and not-for-profit organizations.

Prior to joining Outside GC, Matthew spent nearly two decades working in-house as a transactional attorney for Hudson's Bay Company (the owner of Saks Fifth Avenue and other department store chains in Canada and Europe), Time Warner Cable, Sony Music, and The New York Public Library. In these positions, Matthew worked closely with clients at all levels of seniority to structure and negotiate a broad range of complex transactions. Throughout his career, his colleagues have consistently described him as a skilled negotiator who excels at using clear, concise language to draft even the most complex concepts.
Matthew received degrees from Stanford Law School, Princeton University (MA in Romance Languages), and Dartmouth College (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). He lives in New York City, where he spends his free time going to museums, reading, and writing fiction. His book of linked short stories Outside Is the Ocean won the 2017 Iowa Short Fiction Award.
