Dori Solomon joined the firm in 2017 after 21 years in-house at AOL (now known as “Oath”), having last served as Assistant General Counsel. Dori’s practice is transactional, focused mainly within the digital media space. Dori brings extraordinary value to her clients as a “deal lawyer,” skillfully working to maximize a deal’s benefits while minimizing risk. Dori’s clients at Outside GC include American Council on Education, BuzzFeed, Gannett, Vox Media, and Washington Speakers Bureau.
While at AOL, Dori’s clients included AOL subsidiaries TechCrunch, Engadget, Autoblog, and the Huffington Post. Leveraging her expertise in content licensing and syndication, software and technology licensing (including SaaS), talent agreements, sponsorship agreements, and venue agreements, Dori supported her clients’ increase in performance metrics year over year, including major growth in advertising revenue, unique visitors and page views.
Among her achievements at AOL, Dori successfully negotiated and closed the deals that expanded the Huffington Post into Spain and Brazil, TechCrunch into China, and AOL into India, including working with local counsel to “localize” websites for compliance with country-specific laws. Dori also handled outbound and inbound licensing deals with professional sports leagues, film studios, television networks and publishers, and provided strategic counsel to AOL’s business teams with respect to acquisitions, divestitures, and new lines of business.
Dori graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Communication Studies and a minor in Political Science. She earned her J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago. Dori is admitted to practice law in Maryland and Washington, D.C.
In addition to spending time with her family, Dori enjoys reading, especially while lounging near the pool in Rehoboth Beach, solving the New York Times crossword puzzle, and traveling.
