Ellen Park has extensive experience in both the pharmaceutical and consumer products industries, having worked at 4 major global companies and advised early stage pharma/biotech companies. She regularly provides support in critical business areas, including transactional, intellectual property, regulatory, corporate and litigation oversight, and handles a range commercial contract needs, such as M&A, licensing, collaboration, clinical study and material transfer agreements.
Most recently, Ellen served as Vice President and General Counsel Technology at Colgate-Palmolive Company, where she was responsible for overseeing the company’s external innovation function, negotiating a range of transactional matters, leading due diligence teams, and overseeing major litigation matters. Ellen was a strategic business partner supporting multi-billion dollar businesses such as oral care, Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals, medical devices and pet nutrition including nutrigenomics. Ellen developed internal systems and creative training programs in areas such as agreements management, compliance, best practices for working with third parties and risk management. As a registered Patent Attorney, Ellen leveraged her IP knowledge to ensure that her clients achieved the best possible outcomes in this often contentious and critical area of negotiation. Ellen also served as Colgate’s Chief Patent Counsel and handled all aspects of building and managing an extensive global patent portfolio, patent department and global outside counsel. Under her strong leadership and management skills, Colgate’s patent portfolio won awards and its patent department became a model of operations efficiency.
Prior to Colgate, Ellen worked for several major pharmaceutical companies, including Bristol-Myers Squibb, Novartis and Pharmacia/Pfizer. She drafted and negotiated licensing and other tech transfer/research related agreements with major pharma companies, early stage pharma/biotech businesses and academic/research institutions. Ellen was lead counsel on multi-functional life-cycle management teams bridging regulatory and IP areas. She was also responsible for developing meaningful patent portfolios in therapeutic areas such as oncology, metabolics and anti-infectives.
Ellen holds a B.S. in Pharmacy from SUNY Buffalo and received her J.D. from Boston College Law School. Ellen has particular interest in the evolution of legal services and legal/patent forensics, operational excellence and organizational design. Ellen is a firm believer that good food brings happiness and knows her geography by food.
