Duane Berlin joined Outside GC in 2021 with more than 35 years of experience as a corporate, commercial, transactional, finance and compliance attorney for a wide range of corporate, entrepreneurial and institutional clients.

Immediately prior to joining Outside GC Duane served as the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel to Aura (f/k/a Intersections/Identity Guard ), a global SaaS consumer technology company. Serving as a member of the executive leadership team, Duane implemented a comprehensive privacy compliance program, managed Aura’s commercial contract process and implemented the company’s first automated contract lifecycle management and archive solution and supervised numerous corporate finance and M&A projects. Duane drove the SEC compliance function when Aura was a Nasdaq-listed public company and then oversaw the legal aspects of bringing the company private.

Prior to Aura, Duane was the Managing Principal of a boutique corporate and commercial law firm with a practice focused on public and private corporate finance, business transactions, commercial contracts, compliance and business entity formation and governance. Duane often served as outside general counsel to his clients, which included small, mid-size and large companies, entrepreneurs and individual and institutional investors. Duane ‘s practice included serving as general counsel to the two primary industry and professional associations for the marketing and public opinion research industries in the United States, and Duane is the former General Counsel, and a current member, of the Board of Directors of the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research. Located at Cornell University, the Roper Center is the world’s largest archive of public opinion research data.

Duane started his career as an associate attorney at Cummings & Lockwood in Stamford Connecticut.

Duane received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law, where he was Associate Editor of the University of Miami Law Review and a member of the Society of the Wig & Robe. He received his BA from Brandeis University, with a double-major in Political Science and Philosophy. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar.

Duane and his wife Stacey are avid boaters and Duane is a US Coast Guard licensed Captain.
