Christy Kotowski has more than twenty years of experience as a California attorney advising and representing businesses in employment and labor law matters. Christy offers practical solutions to complex workplace problems amid ever-changing federal, state and local laws. Christy’s expertise includes discrimination, harassment and retaliation; unpaid wages, overtime and paid sick leave; California Labor Code Private Attorney General Act (PAGA) claims; administrative charges and investigations; providing advice on hiring, discipline, termination, FMLA, pregnancy disability leave, leaves of absence and reasonable accommodations; drafting and review of employee handbooks, bonus plans, commission plans and other policies.
Before joining Outside GC, Christy most recently founded a successful law firm focusing on providing employment law advice and counseling. Her legal career began in Silicon Valley at Morrison & Foerster, one of California’s oldest and largest law firms. She also worked as in-house employment counsel for a Fortune 500 company and for the U.S. research and development subsidiary of an international company, and served as a law clerk for U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth D. Laporte in the Northern District of California.
Christy is a graduate of UC Hastings College of the Law (with honors) and of the University of California at Santa Barbara, with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science—International Relations. She has received numerous SuperLawyer and Rising Star awards and is an active member of the Contra Costa County Bar Association.
Christy grew up in Northern California and still calls the San Francisco Bay Area home. In her spare time, she enjoys international travel, mystery novels, and sewing quilts.
