Lew joined Outside GC in 2005 bringing with him extensive and varied experience as a business lawyer and as a senior business executive responsible for the management of a major Connecticut industrial corporation.
Lew's legal practice has focused on business acquisitions and divestitures, complex contract negotiation and formation, corporate and commercial financing, and strategic advice to senior corporate management teams and boards of directors. Lew's representative clients include PolyWorks, Inc., an innovative manufacturer of polyurethane and silicone products and GTECH Corporation, a global developer and supplier of gaming technologies, as well as clients as diverse as development stage technology companies and a major regional bank.
Prior to joining Outside GC, Lew served as General Counsel to Wind-up Entertainment, Inc., a large and successful independent record label based in New York City. For many years prior to that he was a partner in the major Connecticut law firm of Tyler Cooper & Alcorn, LLP and was the senior attorney in the Business Services Department of that firm. He was the principal counsel to businesses engaged in a wide spectrum of activities ranging from manufacturing to venture capital investing, investment management, construction contracting, medical technology, financial institutions, service businesses, and private equity investors.
Before joining Tyler Cooper & Alcorn as a partner, Lew served as President and CEO of Century Brass Products, Inc., a Waterbury, Connecticut full-line brass mill and manufacturing company owned by an investor group which Lew represented as counsel in the leveraged acquisition of the company. When Century Brass - which had annual sales of $250 million and 2,200 employees - began to encounter severe financial problems, Lew was called upon by the investors and creditors to assume the executive leadership of the company, a position he held for more than six years during which time he was responsible for all aspects of the company's operations including acting as de facto general counsel.
Lew received his B.A. from Columbia University and his law degree from Yale Law School.
Lew has been a leader in virtually every aspect of Jewish life in the Greater Hartford area, serving, at various times, as an officer and member of the Executive Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, President of Temple Beth Sholom of Manchester, CT, and President of the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford. He recently acted as principal counsel in the merger of Temple Beth Sholom with Congregation B'nai Israel of Vernon, CT.
While at law school in New Haven, he met and married Shirley. They are parents of two adult children and take much joy from them, a son-in-law and two absolutely beautiful and brilliant grandchildren. Lew and Shirley have traveled extensively in search of adventure and mountains to climb.
