Laurie Bennett recently joined the firm, having last served as Director and Associate General Counsel of Investment Technology Group, Inc. (NYSE:ITG) and as General Counsel of its global order management, trading analytics software and network division. ITG is an agency broker and financial technology firm that partners with asset managers globally to provide innovative solutions spanning the investment continuum. Laurie was a key member of her division's management team and was responsible for SEC and NYSE filings, strategic partnerships, licensing agreements, trading and soft dollar agreements, commission sharing relationships and intellectual property. She played a critical role in the acquisition and integration of Plexus Group, Inc. and The MacGregor Group, Inc., and served on the public company's audit, disclosure, risk management, intellectual property and business continuity planning committees.
Laurie's clients include RevTrax, Little Pim and Aramsco.
Before joining ITG, Laurie was a corporate associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom where she represented start-ups, later stage and public companies, as well as venture capital firms and investment banks, in a variety of transactions including formation, private financings, public offerings and other strategic transactions, and advised clients with regard to securities regulations, secured and unsecured bank financings and general corporate matters. Laurie's clients included companies in a variety of industries, including software, pharmaceuticals, real estate and industrial operations.
Laurie understands the business role of an in-house lawyer and the importance of providing clients with practical and efficient solutions that balance business concerns with appropriate risk management.
Laurie received a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University. She majored in Comparative Area Studies (East Asia and Eastern Europe) and minored in Japanese and Markets and Management Studies and studied overseas at Waseda University in Tokyo. She is a member of the New York bar and holds Series 7 and Series 24 licenses.
When not attending to the needs of her clients, Laurie is usually busy attending to her husband and two daughters. She enjoys cooking and baking for family and guests, playing tennis, and learning about Fancy Nancy, Thomas the Tank Engine and The Wiggles.
