Julie joined Outside GC in 2010, having last served as a Legal Director at Oracle.  Julie draws on her extensive experience representing Fortune 200 companies in a broad array of transactional, litigation, and corporate matters to help her clients mitigate legal risks, maximize the value of their assets, and achieve their business goals in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

At Oracle, Julie was a member of the in-house litigation team, managing intellectual property, commercial, and government and regulatory litigation matters.  Julie joined Oracle by way of the acquisition of Sun Microsystems, where she worked for ten years, most recently as the Chief Litigation Counsel responsible for Sun's worldwide litigation portfolio.  Prior to that, Julie managed a team of attorneys and contract negotiators supporting outbound sales transactions in the United States and Canada and led complex negotiations of professional services, managed services and product sales transactions in the financial services, health care, and insurance industries.

During her time at Sun, Julie also provided legal support for Sun’s server, software, storage, microprocessor, and services engineering organizations.  In addition to negotiating numerous key inbound intellectual property licenses and counseling on a wide variety of legal issues related to the development and release of products, she led several initiatives relating to the use, development, release, and licensing of open source technology.  She also provided legal support for over a dozen acquisitions and asset purchase transactions, including Sun’s $4 billion acquisition of StorageTek.  Julie also completed a rotation on Sun’s corporate law team, during which she was involved in drafting the company's proxy statement, implementing new SEC proxy rules on executive compensation,  negotiating shareholder proposals, and drafting SEC no-action letters.

Prior to joining Sun Microsystems, Julie was an associate in the school law practice of Caplan and Earnest, a Boulder, Colorado law firm that represented school districts across Colorado in a wide variety of litigation, administrative, transactional, and general counseling matters.

Julie received her B.A. at the University of California, San Diego, and her law degree at the University of Colorado.  Following law school, Julie clerked for the Honorable Justice Nancy E. Rice of the Colorado Supreme Court.

In her spare time, Julie enjoys being outside in the Colorado mountains with her husband and two young daughters.
